Latex casting compounds are natural products widely used in the theater and entertainment industry. By adjusting filler ratios, one can easily vary the rigidity of the final casting, making them extremely versatile. Easy to use, but they do smell like ammonia.
Latex Casting Compounds
L-200 Casting Latex (with #64 Filler) L-200 is a pre-vulcanized casting latex. It is very useful for the production of hollow, molded articles, toys, imitation pottery, masks and puppet heads (just to name a few). It is also perfect for coating polystyrene, texturing and general special effects for theatre work. An ideal rubber for small studios.
 
  • How To Bake A Latex Cake - Fill a porous plaster mold with either L-200 alone or with a mixture of L-200 and specific amounts of #64 filler. The plaster mold will absorb part of the water and deposit a wall of "gelled" L200 (and/or L-200 and #64 filler mixture) on the mold surface. Pour out and collect the excess L-200 for future use. It must be used in plaster. The curing process requires that the water be withdrawn. Partially air dry the deposited rubber in the mold. Remove the rubber from the mold. Dry completely in an oven.
  • #64 Filler (with L-200) By varying the amount of #64 filler and L-200 Latex, you can obtain a wide range of flexibilities in the final article. Below are some guidelines, but TCS, Inc. encourages you to experiment. 2 parts L-200 to 1 part #64 filler-very flexible 2 parts L-200 to 2 parts #64 filler-flexible 2 parts L-200 to 3 parts #64 filler-medium flexible 2 parts L-200 to 5 parts #64 filler-very hard

RD-407 Casting Latex is THE liquid rubber used to make high quality masks, body parts and as a skin over polyurethane foams.
