Armature & Reinforcement Materials

  • Alkali Resistant Fiberglass Mesh for reinforcing Winterstone sculpture and setting mosaic tile. Cuts easily to the size you need. Sold by the yard or roll. Available in 2.12 oz./sq. ft. or 4.3 oz./sq. ft.

  • Aluminum armature wire is very "bendy" and easy to manipulate. Use alone for smaller projects or with other more rigid armature materials for larger projects.

  • White, open cell foam for assembling and carving, Styrofoam is a most versatile armature material; use a sculpted Styrofoam armature with foam coatings to make your 3D shape to mosaic.

Aquaresin
  • AQUA-RESIN® is an easy to use, non-toxic sculpting resin. This water-based composite material can be used in casting, molding or as a foam coat. It is primarily used with fiberglass reinforcement.

    Permanent in all interior as well as most exterior applications, it has numerous uses in such diverse fields as scenic design, architecture, sculpture, and prototype and product development.

Winterstone

  • WINTERSTONE is a white, dry powder mix --- a complex multi-component cementitious mixture --- which when mixed with the necessary water produces a modeling medium of clay-like consistency. It stiffens and hardens gradually and continuously. It works as easily as clay and sets as hard as stone.

Hot Wire Foam Coat
  • Interior& Exterior foam coat. It can also be mixed into a paste form to fill in cracks and holes. Just add water to this powder and paint it over the foam surface. Easy clean-up with soap and water.

Magic-Smooth
  • Magic-Smooth is a two-part epoxy is similar in use to Magic-Sculp but it has a thinner consistency (similar to Vaseline). Easily smoothed with water to a glassy finish, Magic-Smooth is an ideal foam coat!

  • Magic-Sculpt is a two part epoxy putty that comes in two containers, (as seen above) one resin and one hardener. Magic-Sculp is mixed 1 to 1 by volume in small quantities as you need it. Almost anything can be used as an armature, such as; armature wire, metal mesh, styrofoam, wood and balled up tin foil.
  • Our favorite sculpting tool for Magic-Sculp are Clayshapers. Nothing sticks to these silicone tipped sculpting tools making them great for use with this sculpting epoxy.
  • See also Magic-Smooth - a two part epoxy gel. It does not dissolve foam, making it a great foam coat! It also is a great material for adding texture or as an adhesive to many materials.

  • This metal scrapper is used primarily for sculpting clay, however it is also great for spreading adhesives and sculpting Winterstone. The serations leave an even, textured surface. (Note: this tool is made of thin flexible metal. Over time Winterstone will wear the teeth down, making finer ridges great for use on smaller pieces.)
