SAMA Winterstone Sculpting Class 2005

Sculpting a Winterstone Form for 3D Mosaics - Society of American Mosaic Artists* Conference 2005, Washington DC
This class was offered to members of SAMA at their fourth-annual SAMA conference in March 2005. The class was taught by Heather Dadak of The Compleat Sculptor and held at George Washington University. (Special thanks to the Art Department of George Washington University for hosting this workshop.) The class was offered at two times, Wednesday night 6pm - 10pm and Thursday 10am – 2pm, both were filled with the maximum of 15 students per class.
  • The class description for this particular conference is as follows: This hands-on technical workshop will give students the knowledge and materials to successfully make 3D Winterstone forms to mosaic. Each student will participate in several exercises designed to teach skills needed to make any shape desired out of Winterstone. Students will leave the class with a Winterstone form ready for tesserae as well as the tools and materials to continue to sculpt at home-just add water! A discussion of appropriate adhesives and other available sculpting media and techniques available to mosaic artists will also be included. Final works will be transported to hotel by volunteers once the Winterstone is set. (Participants are then responsible for transporting or shipping their work to their final destination.)
